Beijing Capital International Airport, located in Shunyi District, Beijing, China, is the busiest international airport in China and serves as a vital air gateway and key window for China's external exchanges.
Beijing Capital International Airport was originally completed in 1958. On January 1, 1980, Terminal 1 (T1) and its supporting facilities, including the apron and the front parking lot, were completed and officially put into operation. On November 1, 1999, Terminal 2 (T2) was officially opened, while T1 was simultaneously closed for renovation. On September 20, 2004, T1 was reopened for service. In the spring of 2008, the airport expansion project (Terminal 3, T3) was completed.
Beijing Capital International Airport has three terminals with a total area of 1.41 million square meters; it has two 4E-grade runways and one 4F-grade runway, with dimensions of 3800×60 meters, 3200×50 meters, and 3800×60 meters respectively; the airport provides a total of 314 aircraft stands; and it operates 252 domestic and international routes. In 2016, Beijing Capital International Airport handled 94.3935 million passengers, an increase of 5% year-on-year; cargo and mail throughput reached 1.9432 million tons, up 2.8% year-on-year; aircraft movements totaled 606,000, an increase of 2.7% year-on-year; ranking first in China for passengers and aircraft movements, and second for cargo volume.
