Changsha Huanghua International Airport is located in Huanghua Town, Changsha County, Changsha City, Hunan Province, China, approximately 20 kilometers from the urban center of Changsha. It is one of the world's top 100 airports (ranked 98th).
Construction of the airport began on June 25, 1986, with an initial 18/36 concrete runway completed in 1989. The airfield was originally rated Class 4D, with a runway length of 2,600 meters and a width of 45 meters, capable only of handling small and medium-sized aircraft. In 2009, the first runway was extended from 2,600 meters to 3,200 meters, and the airfield rating was upgraded accordingly from 4D to 4E.
Additionally, a second runway at the airport officially began construction on December 8, 2013. Located 380 meters east of the existing runway, it is 3,800 meters long and 60 meters wide, including two parallel taxiways of equal length. Rated at Class 4F, the new runway features facilities such as airfield lighting, navigation, fire protection, security, and air traffic control systems, and was completed in 2016. Designed to the highest current domestic runway classification (Class F), it is capable of accommodating the world's largest aircraft, the Airbus A380. With both runways operating in tandem, the airport has an annual passenger capacity of 31 million.
In November 2015, Beijing Jinghang'an Airport Engineering Co., Ltd. undertook the power supply and airfield lighting project for the eastern expansion of the airfield at Changsha Huanghua International Airport. The project passed final acceptance in September 2016 and was delivered on schedule, receiving high praise and recognition from the client.
