Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport is located in Qiandiankou Village, Jiaodong Subdistrict, Jiaozhou City, Qingdao, Shandong Province, China. It is 11 kilometers southwest of Jiaozhou City center and 39 kilometers southeast of Qingdao City center, 28 kilometers from the former Qingdao Liuting International Airport. The airport is a 4F-class international airport, a regional hub airport, and a gateway airport to Japan and South Korea.
On June 26, 2015, Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport officially broke ground; on November 21, 2018, the new airport was named "Qingdao Jiaodong Airport".
Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport features a terminal building with a floor area of 478,000 square meters and 97 boarding gates; the apron has a total of 178 aircraft stands, including 76 contact stands; the airport has two runways, both 3,600 meters long, with widths of 45 meters and 60 meters respectively. The airport is designed to meet the projected demand in 2025 of 35 million passengers, 500,000 tons of cargo and mail, and 298,000 aircraft movements annually.
Since December 2015, Beijing Jinghang'an Airport Engineering Co., Ltd. has undertaken the airfield lighting, apron lighting, ground power supply, air traffic control, and low-voltage (weak current) systems projects at Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport. To ensure project quality, the company scientifically formulated construction plans, reasonably allocated construction resources, and strictly controlled construction progress, successfully completing all scheduled tasks to high standards and high quality. The company delivered a satisfactory result to the airport construction authority and received multiple letters of appreciation from the airport construction headquarters. In 2018, the project department was awarded the honorary title of "Advanced Collective in Labor Competition" by the airport construction headquarters.
